Kelly Harper
Kelly Harper has been a local pop singer for over a decade. As a former model, she has always found comfort in music, even as a child. Today, you can hear her songs played on primetime network TV shows across several networks. MTV and Oxygen have extensively used her music and the movie Thanks to Gravity.
She also won Songwriter Universe‘s Best Song of the Month with Rob Wells. Harper stays best known for her album New Best Friend released in 2006.
Bob Cupp
The aptly named Bob Cupp was a prominent golf course designer known worldwide. Cupp also helped build courses with Jack Nicklaus throughout the late 1970s. His challenging links can get played in Oregon, New Jersey, Alabama, and beyond. From typical fairways to 36-hole legends courses, he built them all.
Cupp also wrote the book on design with Rob Whitten in 2012. He also served as president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects.
El McMeen
Fans of acoustic guitar likely know the name of El McMeen. As one of 100 Greatest Acoustic Guitarists, he tackles many genres and styles. McMeen plays using a fingerpicking style, which stems from the humble banjo. As a result, he is known internationally for his rhythms and unique albums.
Another hallmark of McMeen’s style is he only plays in Drop D tuning. As an arranger, that gives him a unique sound in any genre of music.
Carolyn Meyer
Carolyn Meyer is a prominent young adult fiction and historical fiction author. Her books primarily focus on female historical figures, although she has other subjects, too. Meyer has over 60 titles published and is still working at age 85. The primary series she writes for is her Young Royals books starring fictionalized historical rulers.
Other books include The True Adventures of Charlie Darwin, taking on a surprising male narrator. Other subjects include princesses, queens, and even Mozart’s sister, Maria Anna.
John A. Hostetler
Few residents devoted themselves to understanding their neighbors like John A. Hostetler. As the premier researcher on the Amish and Hutterite, his work bridges our unique communities. Hostetler seemingly became thrown into research, as he was born into a traditional Amish sect. Since he had never received baptism, he joined the Mennonites later in his life.
His research career began in college, where he helped his dean with an encyclopedia. Although he passed away in 2001, his work is still the authority on the subject.
