Windolph Landing Nature Preserve

What could feel more peaceful than 22 acres of lush natural parkland? Windolph Landing Nature Preserve is one of the best-known places to visit. Much of the park is hiking trails, although some bowhunting is allowed in designated locations. The scenic preserve also overlooks the Conestoga River, which feeds the Susquehanna River.

Windolph Landing originally started in 1992 and received the remaining land in 2006. Today, it’s still a top destination for residents and visitors alike.

Reservoir Park

Although there are many parks in the area, few offer as many recreational options. At Reservoir Park, visitors have lots of choices on how to spend an afternoon. You can enjoy a field hockey match or play a game of basketball. There is also a large grass field to practice anything you need.

There is also an onsite pavilion for larger group outings too. Little ones can also cool off at the onsite wading pool as well.

Historic Rock Ford

Although George Washington is the de facto Revolutionary War figure, there were others. Historic Rock Ford is the colonial plantation of General Edward Hand. Originally a British soldier, he immigrated to Lancaster County to practice medicine. There, he climbed through the ranks, leading troops to Boston, Long Island, and Trenton.

Afterward, he joined congress as a Federalist and became Burgess of Lancaster. Today, his home serves to tell his story, as well as those of his slaves.

Willow Valley Golf Course

When the weather is fair, it’s time to hit the fairways. At Willow Valley Golf Course, you can enjoy nine holes of friendly competition. As a par 32 course, this half-sized location is a lovely spot to tee off. Dedicated tee times aren’t required but recommended but maintain affordable prices.

The pro shop also provides rental clubs for this challenging set of greens. This course is popular both for residents and out-of-towners looking for an afternoon outdoors.

Demuth Museum

One of the most original American modern artists is our local Charles Demuth. His work led to the creation of the Precisionism movement, which built towards Modernism styles. His younger years focused mainly on watercolors, but he changed to oils later in life. His art made a name for himself, attracting the eyes of The New York Times.

After years of living with many health concerns, he passed away at 51 in 1935. Today, you can visit the Demuth Museum next to the oldest tobacco shop in America.
